Our History

The church was organized on Friday June 24, 1898 by Elders D.E. Burdeshaw and A.F. Taylor. Fifteen members from Greenwood Baptist Church were received and enrolled. The following named brethren and sisters presented letters of dismission from Greenwood Baptist Church.

Brethren: Edward B. Smith, Thomas Applewhite, Thomas L. Bevis, J.D. Watts. A.N. Bevis, C.A. Boone, J.W. Godwin, and W.R. Bevis.

Sisters: Lou Bevis, Mary J. Watts, Ada Paramore, Mattie Lou Boone, Pattie P. Applewhite, Jennie B Godwin, and Sue Bevis.

The land on which the church was built was donated by Eliza King Ferguson. The first Pastor, J.J White, was called in August of 1898. The church bell was purchased in 1903. Sunday School rooms were added in 1939.

The house adjacent to the church was purchased in 1960 to serve as the first parsonage. In 1969 a new parsonage was built.

A new church was built near the old building in 1977. The loan on the new church was paid off on December 17, 1984.
